One of the most important rules for any drone operator is maintaining Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) throughout every flight.
But what does that actually mean?
Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) means the remote pilot must be able to see the drone with their own eyes at all times during the flight—without relying on the camera view, binoculars or any other visual aid (other than corrective glasses or contact lenses).
Maintaining VLOS helps you:

✅ Monitor surrounding aircraft, birds, people and obstacles.
✅ React quickly to unexpected hazards.
✅ Fly safely and responsibly.
✅ Comply with UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations.
While your drone’s camera provides an excellent view from the air, it doesn’t show everything happening around the aircraft. By keeping your drone within sight, you’re better able to avoid collisions and make safe decisions throughout the flight.
